INTERNET PROJECT

The Swedish Committee's office also supervise a computer project for children and teenagers. The project is runned by the organisation Care Highway. The background for the project was the knowledge about the widely spread prejudices against IDP:s and refugees. Many refugee and IDP-children are bullied in school for reasons such as them being IDP:s and refugees. Care Highways idea with the project is to create a neutral ground where all children can meet on equal terms. It's mainly about the Internet and computer games etc but we also teach computer classes for children whom never used a computer before, and there are a playroom.

Care Highway have also started a cooperation with the local Red Cross regarding computer classes for 15 IDP children. They have all lost a parent in the Kosovo conflict. We got good advertisment in the local media in Cacak, central Serbia, where the office is situated. From a modest start there's nowadays always busy in the office.

The crowded computer room in the old place

The new computer room

The internetprojekt was in fact such a great success that we had to move the office. The computer room at the old place was far to small. The new facilities that the regional office moved to in march 2006 is much more sutibel for the internetproject. And we also got a smaller classroom/conferens room.

A journalist from Cacak will teach a writing class for those children interested. We do not know when this activity can start up. The journalist has been promised by her newspaper to publish some of the children's articles. It's about an active democracy education for children. It will be a fun project that we are looking forward to very much.

What Care Highways internetproject really need now is more computers. Today we have five computers and that is really not enough since the project has become more popular then we thought it should be from the start. To make purchase of new computers possible we need more sponsors. Contact the office in Cacak if you are intrested to be one of the sponsors or if you have ideas how to find new sponsors.

REFUGEE DAY

During the summer the Swedish Committee helped arrange the refugeeday in Cacak. The refugeeday is held every summer and is mainly a way to do something fun for the refugee children in the Cacak municipality.
